Nutella Puff Pastry Cornucopia

The Nutella puff pastry trend has been everywhere this year, so I made a Thanksgiving cornucopia version filled with berries and whipped cream. It’s simple, cute, and the perfect touch for a fall dessert board, especially if you want something impressive and festive without spending hours baking.

Here’s exactly how I made it!

SUPPLIES
– Puff pastry (I only used one sheet because this is a dessert-sized cornucopia). I used one box of Pepperidge Farm Ready-to-bake Puff Pastry Sheets (each box comes with two sheets)
– Nutella
– Strawberries and blueberries, or whatever fruit you’d like to fill it with
– Whipped cream
– I used Reddi-whip because it’s what I had, I prefer homemade or real whipped cream because it displays better and tastes richer
– Foil for shaping the cornucopia
– Melted butter (for brushing)
– Baking sheet and parchment paper

DIRECTIONS
1. PREHEAT THE OVEN
Preheat your oven to 400°F so it’s ready by the time your cornucopia is assembled.

2. SHAPE THE FOIL CORNUCOPIA
Shape foil into a hollow cornucopia form. Keep it packed as loosely as possible so it’s easier to remove later. Make sure the opening gradually widens so it resembles a real cornucopia, and it’s easier to pull out once finished baking.

3. UNFOLD AND SLIGHTLY ROLL OUT THE PUFF PASTRY
Use a rolling pin to gently flatten your thawed puff pastry and set the flour in better. Flattening helps the final shape look smoother and bake more evenly. I forgot to do this at this point and the twists didn’t hold together as well. Better to just roll the dough now!

4. MAKE A NUTELLA SANDWICH
Spread a thin, even layer of Nutella over one puff pastry sheet.
Place the second sheet on top to create a Nutella puff pastry “sandwich.”

5. CUT INTO STRIPS
Slice the Nutella sandwich into thin strips using a knife. You could also maybe do it with a pizza cutter, but I find the strips stay cleaner when you just do quick simple downward cuts with a knife (instead of dragging a blade through the soft dough).

6.  TWIST AND WRAP
Twist each strip, then wrap them one by one around the foil cornucopia.
– Keep the strips close together with no gaps. The dough will not puff enough to fill space, and gaps create weak spots in the final cornucopia.
– Pinch the ends of each strip together where they meet.
– Try not to press dough directly into the foil — this makes the foil harder to remove later.
– If you want to make extra sure that the curved tail of the cornucopia stays up while baking, then add a little bumper of foil under the tail to help hold it up

7. BRUSH WITH MELTED BUTTER
Brush the entire pastry lightly with melted butter. Use a pastry brush, not a spoon like I did (my kids stole my brush) because the drips pool at the base and can make it soggy.

8. BAKE
Bake until golden brown. It’s okay if some edges get slightly crispy…that’s better than underbaked areas that might collapse once cooled. You want it to be baked enough to hold its structure, but still soft enough to enjoy eating, so you might need to check on it a few times! Mine baked around 15-20 minutes

9. COOL BEFORE REMOVING FOIL
Let it cool slightly before removing the foil. Removing too early can cause collapse.
Remove foil slowly and carefully! You’ve come this far, don’t let it collapse because you pulled out the foil too fast! I left the foil inside the tail for structure…optional, but helpful.

10. FILL & SERVE
Fill with berries, sweets, or whipped cream.
Add whipped cream last so it stays fluffy and presentable.

TIPS & NOTES
– Keep strips close together for strength; they won’t expand much while baking.
– Use a brush to avoid soggy spots from melted butter pooling.
– A few crisp edges are fine — better to be fully baked than too soft and risk it collapsing.
– Let the cornucopia cool before removing foil to prevent sagging.

CLOSING THOUGHTS
This Nutella puff pastry cornucopia looks like a show-stopper, but it’s surprisingly simple and so fun for dessert boards. Fill it with fruit, sweets, or anything festive.
